Williamsburg at Dusk

Image
Just popping in with a few photos. My favorite time to go down to Colonial Williamsburg with the girls is at dusk. I love watching them flit about and seeing all the lanterns glow. Oh how I love this time of year! (I took these photos before we left for New Hampshire but am a bit behind on posting.)   We are on our way back to Williamsburg today and once I get settled in I have about 1200 photos to go through so I should have lots of things to share in the next couple of weeks! We had yucky cold, overcast weather pretty much our whole week in New Hampshire and although we worked on lots of projects I didn't take any photos until Saturday. Like I mentioned though, I did take about 1200 in about 24 hours. Haha! Unfortunately, seeing how I didn't take any until right before we left I haven't had time to go through them. Here's one shot though from Lola's party. This was a little vignette off to the side and the little cupcake on the tree swing was my favorite part

A No-No

I am afraid this post will make some of you cringe…a few years back, Mother travelled to China and brought back these gorgeous hand carved plaques from an antique store near the Great Wall in Beijing.  The were promised to be hundreds of years old and taken from a bed.  (Can you imagine?!?!) As you well know, I am in the throes of a little guest suite gussy-up and, as I’m sure you’ve figured out by now, the plaques were not left unharmed.  Rather, they received a fresh new coat of duck egg blue, natch.  That’s right gals.  My name is Amanda and I maimed two who-knows-how-old antique relics from China just so they’d look  pretty in my guest room. Seriously, I positively mad for the new do!  After all, it was either a fresh coat of paint or the rest of eternity in the bowels of my closet. Just a few more tweaks in the room and I’ll be ready to share!! xoxo Before & After Chair Chalk Paint Mirror Find me at: Between Naps on the Porch , My Uncommon Slice of Suburbia , Savvy Southern S

Pretty DIY Craft Ideas

Image
I've discovered some fabulous craft ideas in Ruche latest digital magazine, entitled, "A Cup of Tea" - Garden Party Ideas. Cute vegetable vases to hold a Spring Spray of blooms such as the artichoke below. Lots of other ideas, rustic paint can vases with a country feel and a lovely shabby chic coffee table using an old window pane, (great idea!)... Oh! and not forgetting a yummy Lamington Recipe and lots more... What fabulous ideas, I love both of these and they would look perfect on a Spring table or as a centrepiece for Mothers Day. What a sweet and simple idea  re-purposing/reclaiming  an old window frame.  Legs such as the ones shown  could be made from old staircase spindles or purpose made legs from a hardware store. You could then paint them using a  French wash.  technique or with chalk paint.  Please click on the image above to view the complete magazine. You could then hop over to visit Shop Ruche's trendy  online store  to view their latest arrivals. Hope y

Sweet Dreams

Image
Long before my littles were even a twinkle in their daddy’s eye, I envisioned a pair of sweet twin beds and couple of daughters to fill them up.  Weeeeeell, we all  know how the daughter thing panned out for me.  As for the twin beds, that vision finally became reality Friday night. After three botched attempts to let the littles share the PCP’s sleeping quarters, they finally asked on a weekend night and we could hardly say no.  They grew drowsy over a sweet discussion of Lego Ninjago and Pokemon nonsense.  My mommy heart must’ve grown ten times as I stealthily listened to the whispers and giggles coming from the room, and I had to stifle a grin as I admonished them to keep quiet and go to sleep for the umpteenth time.  They loved it so much that Saturday night went much the same way. Sweet dreams, y’all! xoxo
