Wisteria Prints On The Cheap!

Image
Happy Spring!     It actually snowed when we went home to Virginia a couple of weeks ago.   With snow on the ground it was hard for me to get into the mood for Spring decorating.  Also, time was limited and any major decorating had to take a back seat to other things.     One of the small changes I made was switching out some prints in the foyer for a pair of botanicals.  You may remember these framed prints from a Wisteria catalog a couple of years ago.  I always liked the prints,  but not the almost $200 each price.  Last Summer Steve and I made a trip to Destin, Florida to see family and enjoy the beach.  I found the botanicals at the local Goodwill and we left the store with both of the framed prints for a whopping $16.00!       I added a botanical to each side of the entrance to the living room.  Now, I am on a search for two plates with green and red to replace the blue o...

Our Sort-of Entryway and It is Well With My Soul

Image
We don't really have an entry-way in our home. You basically open the front door and are in the living room. When we first moved in though, we tried to use the small wall behind the front door and treated it sort of like an entry-way. It functions fine, but I have some ideas for making it more of a true entry-way space...someday... For now though, we have an old bench that opens up and we can store bags, extra shoes, outdoor chalk for the girls, tennis balls, and all sorts of random things. I'm not a huge fan of how the bench looks but it's practical and until I decide for sure what I want to to here it is fine. On the sign above we always hang a couple of Lillie and Lola's sweaters/jackets that make it easy to grab when we are headed out the door in a hurry and then we keep most of their shoes in the basket next to the bench.  We also wanted to let you know we have a new "It is well..." pillow cover in our shop: I hope you all are having a wonderful week! I...

Our Valentine's Decorating

Image
I thought today I would show you the rest of the Valentine's decorating we did in our dining room and living room. I was thinking about doing a really soft pink accent color but couldn't find any fresh flowers that weren't bright pink at the places we went so I just ended up getting some white hyacinths and going with a very simple black and white color scheme. And to keep the girls happy I threw in some hearts and the love banner on our mantel that I had not been planning on using this year. I have to admit looking at them they kind of drove me crazy so even though I had the large heart, the heart petals on the table and the love banner on the mantel up for about a week I ended up removing those three things today and left everything else and I like it so much better...I wish I had time to retake pictures. I think it looks better now. I am not sure the girls agree, but hey, when you are 1 and 4 the more hearts the better =) Over here I used more of my favorite striped stra...
