Pictures from the wilderness ...

Image
Our property from the entrance looking east. Entering the property. The black tube on the left is our electrical connection. The pile of debris on the right was left by the owners of the adjacent land (we assume). It may or may not be on our property; we can't find the property markers and need to resurvey. The valley view from the northwestern edge of the property. There are clear animal trails and scat across the property; this is one of several places where the deer bed down. I hope they return when this is all done! I love the ferns, but they will be an unavoidable casualty when we clear the land. I'm assuming (hoping) they'll grow back. There are more on the land. Standing in the middle of the land (more or less where we will build), east of the entrance, looking back toward the entrance. I just trekked through these bushes. Looking south from just below the build site. Despite the blackberries and poison oak, it's so picturesque!  For more photos of the land in it...

International Artist Magazine Finalist - Inspiration!

Image
Well, I finally made it to press,  my painting "Inspiration" was chosen as a finalist in International Artist Magazines worldwide Floral and Still life competition, 2011.  This magazine was voted the top artist magazine in the world so I am absolutely thrilled and they have dedicated one page on my work in their Oct/Nov issue, which is available on line or in bookshops now. Inspiration is an oil on canvas 1.20 metres square and was bought by a New Zealand collector who lives on Takapuna beachfront in Auckland.  My painting truly could not have a better home and it complimented her interior colours perfectly. I have yet to tell her about the paintings achievement, I am sure she will be as proud as I am.  The accent colours in the cushions were perfect for Inspiration! This is a large painting but the towering wall makes it appear smaller in this photo than it really is. Inspiration Happily at home!   More of my work can be seen on my "paintings page" or on my we...

A Little Halloween in the Dining Room

Image
Pin It As much as I love to decorate and especially love decorating for different holidays I am not really much of a Halloween person. However, I did decide to add a few accents for the weekend. Melaine from My Sweet Savannah was so sweet and sent me these black crows last fall, which I LOVE! I got these hang tags last year on Etsy. Happy Halloween!

Random Saturday musings, a few questions answered and a hello

Image
Happy Saturday to you. I don't know about where you are but over here they are predicting one heck of a nasty day...including cold rain, high winds and then get this eventually a wet driven SNOW! Yes you read right, its not even Halloween and they are talking snow! Up north and west, they are predicting boatloads of the white stuff, as in up to one foot! Huh? What IS going on? Anyway, this is one of my random posts....a little bit of this and a little bit of that. Many of you wanted the names of the fabrics I featured on Thurs. post (the library fabrics) as well as the lighting sources so I included that information. The sconce is from Decorative Crafts. Then some pretty spaces and pictures of fun things that just struck a chord for no real reason at all. What are you up to this weekend? Here, the normal chauffeuring of my son to various things, two house appts. dinner plans with friends (I hope, hubby is a little under the weather) and hopefully will squeeze in a movie. Tomorrow w...
