Oatland Island Summer Camp

Image
The PCP just wrapped up his third year of camp at Savannah’s Oatland Island Wildlife Center .  He signed up for Amazing Animals and had a rollicking good time learning about all sorts of creatures through hands-on activities, creative crafts and wildlife investigations.   The highlights of his week were crabbing off the dock and holding Checkers the snake! I adore that he has the opportunity to attend this camp each year, as Sister and I attended the very same and much unchanged camp for countless summers.   And if you’re visiting Savannah, the trails are open to the public year round with a small admission fee.  There are often special demonstrations on the weekends as well and a story time for toddlers on Tuesdays.  It’s a great place to entertain the littles for a few hours.  If you go, definitely bring a cold drink and coat yourself in bug spray.  I find early spring and fall to be the best time to visit. After one last beach visit, a...

The art of storage

I just love the way Axel Vervoordt is storing furniture and decorative items.  Kanaal, a former distillery complex at Wijnegem (near Antwerp) that the Axel Vervoordt company purchased in 2000, is the perfect location to store lots of antique furniture. It is always so inspiring walking around the warehouses of Kanaal. Visiting Belgium, you really should visit this gorgeous site! The way Axel

I Know I Can

Image
The PCP is nothing if not confident in himself, his abilities, his knowledge, his muscles, his mastery of any and all feats…you get my drift.  I’ve said before that his self confidence is one of his most admirable characteristics, and one that fuels dogged determination to accomplish anything, do anything, learn anything…etc.  Another admirable, albeit challenging in the child rearing department, trait.  But I digress. The littles were thrilled when I suggested we get skim boards (from Christy’s Department Store) to use on the beach this afternoon.  Here’s how the purchase went down… Cashier: Y’all got the sex to go with them? Me: Um… excuse me?  (as I turn 50 shades of red).  Cashier holds up sex wax Me: Oh!  The sex wax!!!  Well no, I’ll take one of those too.  How do I know when to reapply it?  (We didn’t wax boards back in the day.) Cashier: When y’all fall off and break something. Me: Gotcha.  (Make mental note to apply approxi...

Busy and Blessed

Hey friends!   Whew!!!  My days are full but good.   My son has been gone all summer working at summer camp.  He comes home on Saturdays and I do his laundry and then he goes back.   My husband has traveled off and on all summer to Washington and now California.    Our oldest daughter traveled with him to California, which is where they are now.   My youngest daughter and I spent a few days visiting the beautiful city of Franklin, Tennessee, where we shopped, ate, swam, made and visited with new friends, ate some more.   We ate at a wonderful restaurant in Brentwood, near Franklin, called the Puffy Muffin.  Oh my, it was beyond fabulous.    We went to Leiper’s Fork, which was just featured in Country Living magazine, and ate lunch with a new blogging friend that the Lord put right in my pathway.(literally)   Such a great story, but probably too long.  Trust me that God will direct our...

DIY Mini Vintage Cake Stand

Image
I love vintage cups and saucers and have my own small collection of miss-matched floral tea sets. Today I'm going to show you how to upcycle some old china to create a sweet little cake stand. I purchased my vintage cup and saucer at a hospice shop, you'll easily find little sets such as these in second hand shops, salvation army or garage sales, even grandmas house ☺ What you need: Vintage cup and plate (make sure your cup has a flat base so that the plate will sit level) Glue (suitable for china) Clear cellophane (for gift wrap) Scissors Ribbon Place your cup upside down on a flat surface, run the glue around the lower lip of the base of the cup where it will touch the plate. Place your plate on top, making sure it is even each side, you may need to get down to eye level to check. Carefully place something heavy on top (a cup filled with rice works well). Allow to dry per instructions on glue packet. As a lovely gift, just simply add some chocolates or little cakes. Re...
