Last Leg
This sweet little junk store table and chair set (all decked out to ring in 2007) was pretty much on it’s last leg by the time we left our old house.
With a wobbly table and two chairs beyond repair, the last two chairs have been sadly tucked away in the attic for the last three years. That is, until I remembered their solemn existence and decided to breathe new life into them for the porch I keep carrying on about!
Armed with a drill, pliers, a staple gun and some new fabric, I recovered them in Premier Prints Chipper in Village Blue with another burlap monogram. Here’s how:
1. Use the drill (or screwdriver) to unscrew seat and back from chair frame.
2. Use the pliers to remove the staples attaching the existing fabric. Here’s what the original looked like. Ew!
3. Use the fabric removed in step 2 to cut an appropriate sized square of the new fabric.
4. Cut initial out of burlap and use Heat n Bond Lite per the package instructions to adhere to base fabric. Stitch around the initial with sewing machine if desired.
5. Use staple gun to cover front of chair back. I start with a staple on the top, then pull tight and staple the bottom. I then move and do a staple on the left and right sides, pulling super tight. Lastly, I finish around the piece with staples and trim away excess fabric.
6. For the back of the seat back, I used the fabric I removed as a template to cut a new piece. I stapled close the edges to ensure all staples would be covered by the wood backing.
7. Cover the chair seat using the same process as in step five.
8. Use drill to reattach seat and chair back.
I couldn’t be happier with the new look. I’ve adored these chairs since the first time I laid eye on them!
They will flank a burlap covered buffet table Honey is in the midst of building for me and will life safely out of reach of rain and the elements. I mean, even if they last me a year out there it will be better than having them hiding in that awful attic.
Now, y’all go tune into Dallas so we can debrief in the mornin!
xoxo
